Mom’s Birthday Card

This is a card I made for my mom’s birthday, today. Some of the ink from the signatures bled through to the front. I’m taking notes on how to make better handmade greeting cards.

Day #18 – I’m thankful for little children

They are innocent. Reslient. And in many cases, brave. Children are full of imagination, wonder and appreciation for some of life’s littlest things.

A few years back, I attended a poetry seminar in Columbia, Missouri where my fellow writers and I were asked a question by one of the coordinators which struck a chord in my heart: “What happened to your confidence since you were two and three years old?”

A sudden silence fell upon the room, and we were all waiting for her to answer the question. She then asked another question: “What happened to you from the time you were a toddler until now which make you lack self-confidence?” I was amazed at her wisdom.

Her questions and following remarks made me begin to wonder what had happened to my self-confidence since I was a little child until that point, and even until now! I was fifteen years old when I attended that writer’s seminar, and now, I’m 28 years old! Since then, I have used the woman’s line of questioning and following remarks as a sort of guide in my own life to serve as a constant reminder that fearful and self-conscious people tend to be unhappy, lack motivation and feel unaccomplished in their lives.

This is why I’m thankful for children. That workshop serves as a constant reminder for me to always embrace the freedom of childhood as it relates to having a merry and worry-free heart.

So, I take this time to say, “Thank you God, for little children.” They remind me of the life that you want me to live: free, worry-free, and happy.

[Dear Readers: I realize that there are also hurting children in every part of the world. If you know of a hurting child, or children, then please do what you can to make a positive and healthy impact in their lives. Children are a precious gift from God, and should regarded as such.]

What good things come to your heart when you think of children?
